Anniversary Gifts: Paper

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013

As wedding season approaches, it’s easy to forget that it’s also anniversary season!  The traditional gift for the first anniversary is paper, we’ve discussed this before and those ideas are here, but  we love these ideas too that are different and out of the box!

After the first year of marriage, many couples may have purchased a house, or combined homes, and are in desperate need of decor items.  These canvases are super easy and fun to make and can be ordered online from companies like Shutterfly or Canvas on Demand.   The couple took their vows (which they wrote themselves) and transposed them onto a canvas! So adorable, and such easy and meaningful artwork for your home!

We are sure you have tons of fabulous photos from your wedding that you want to showcase, but keep in mind, your wedding and your marriage is about the two of you and the life you build together, not just one day!  This is such a cute way to remember the first year of your marriage, photos from every day of the first year.  I am sure this will tell an amazing story as not every day will be sunshine and rainbows and there will be some hard moments captured in there as well, but what a powerful way to say happy anniversary!  (keep in mind, you’ll need to order it after the anniversary in order to capture an exact year.)

Fun Find: Canvas Art

Wednesday, June 20th, 2012

I am so excited to share this idea with you! As the traditional gift for the first anniversary is paper- this is a perfect one!  The company GeeZees takes your photos and your words and puts them together on a canvas print.

What a great idea as a keepsake from your wedding with the lyrics from your first dance, or the vows you took during your ceremony!

Wedding Day Gifts

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Traditionally, a couple will exchange gifts to each other just before the wedding ceremony, or the morning of the wedding.  These gifts can be anything big or small, but most of all should be meaningful.

In keeping with tradition, usually the bride will give her groom a watch or other timepiece.

Watches and Pocket Watches are great gifts for grooms, but here are some other ideas to put a twist on tradition.

1. Cufflinks

Cufflinks are a great gift because they are something that can be worn on the wedding day itself, and if you shop on etsy, you can find cufflinks to fit any personality, like these!

2. Boudoir Albums

Boudoir photography is becoming extremley popular as a wedding gift for grooms.  Brides schedule a photo shoot with their photographers to capture some images in lingerie and then make an album for their grooms on their wedding day.

3. Sports Tickets

Is your groom a big sports fan? Why not get him great seats to his favorite baseball team, football team, etc. And then go with him and cheer on the team!!

Now, as far as gifts for brides go- this tradition has been an easy one to guess, and one that has continued throughout time.  Jewelery! Traditionally pearls, but any kind of jewelery will do.

Brides always appreicate a handwritten love note, so whatever gift is chosen, make sure to send one along.  I love this idea for a wedding present- 12 preplanned, prepaid date nights for the entire year after your wedding, how cute!!

No matter what you do, big or small, a gift to your future husband or wife on your wedding day is another sweet way to say “I love you!”

Anniversary Gifts: 1 Year

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011

Traditionally, the fist anniversary is signified with paper.  Paper may seem like an odd thing to give as a gift, but it could be very broadly defined.   For instance, if you got married in Saratoga, paper might mean tickets to a concert at SPAC, a day at the track (in the form of tickets or racing stats).

One great idea is to give your bride a customized sketch of her dress, as seen in this previous post.

Here are some other thoughtful ideas for those of you with first anniversary’s coming up.

Ornaments- I love Christmas almost as much as I love weddings, this is so cute and thoughtful!  Made by cutting your wedding invitation into strips and putting them inside a glass ball- go the extra mile by using ribbon in your wedding colors.

A lot of newlyweds are also consolidating their homes or buying houses together, so you will always be in need of decor! This is an adorable idea, cut out maps of where you met, where you got engaged, where you were married, where you went on your honeymoon, etc. in the shape of hearts and frame them.  This makes great art and conversation pieces!
