In my wine blog, I’ll be focusing on two parts, wine in the restaurant and wine in the world. The first part will focus on questions and comments that I run into while working in the restaurant. The second part is about whats new and interesting in the world of wine.
This week both topics are combined with the highly anticipated visit from Alessia Antinori, one of the daughters of Piero Antinori, the famous patriarch of Antinori. She will be participating in a wine tasting event scheduled for Monday, May 18th for, sorry to say, only the wine buyers of upstate New York. The Antinori family has been involved with wine for 26 generations and is considered by many to produce some of the best wine in the world. For generations, Antinori men ran the family business, but with no male heirs, Antinori sold 49 percent of the company thinking he would have no successors in a wine industry tradionally operated by men. Whe he realized his daughters were interested in the wine business, he bought back the company and today they are fully involved in operating the family dynasty.
I’m personally very excited to host this special tasting and to be able to meet one of these famous women of wine. In celebration of the wine they’re are making, give a bottle of their Marchesi Antinori Chianti to their most famous Super Tuscan Solaia a try.
